ISMAELE
Anthropologist and Environmental Hiking Guide.
Grown up in Montepulciano, his studies took him to Monticchiello, to the Teatro Povero, where he
rediscovered the sense of belonging and interest in the history, culture and nature of the splendid
Val d’Orcia.
Accompanied by him you will have the opportunity to learn and be amazed, explore and be moved,
immersed in a land that has so much to tell.
His tours are dynamic, stimulating and have a strong local feel.
The ring we propose unites two of the most evocative villages in the southern province of Siena, which mark the border between the Val d’Orcia proper and the beginning of the Val di Chiana: Montepulciano and Monticchiello. Starting from the evocative Church of San Biagio, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, we will walk along the path of Barlettaia, which takes its name from the barlettai, ancient craftsmen who built barrels for transporting water for pilgrims; running along fields and woods of holm oaks and downy oaks, we will reach Monticchiello. A splendidly preserved medieval village, we will explore its streets, learn about its past and come into contact with the Cooperativa di Comunità del Teatro Povero, with its history and with the Tepotratos museum. Afterwards, we will resume our journey back along the Via di San Bartolomeo that will accompany us to Montepulciano, through suggestive views and gentle ups and downs.
